How common is alcohol use during pregnancy?

New research has found that despite the risks involved almost one in ten women consumes alcohol during pregnancy. This is estimated to translate to around 120,000 children born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome in the world every year. The comprehensive study, published in The Lancet Global Health 2017, is one of the first to examine global prevalence and showed wide variations by country – with some regions reporting more than 45 per cent of pregnant women drink alcohol.
